George Roam

George Roam, CFP®, CLU

SVP, Managing Director, Life

What brought you to First Foundation?

The corporate focus on doing what’s right for the customer is consistent with the philosophy that I’ve always used in my career. In addition First Foundation’s management team is very talented and well respected in the industry and I like having accessibility to the entire First Foundation Team, at all levels. Management has guided the company through significant but measured growth over the last 25 years and I believe they will continue to do that. I’ve known Rick Keller for a long time and I believe his vision and drive in founding the company has also earned it an amazing reputation for being a responsible corporate citizen.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Getting to know the First Foundation Bank and First Foundation Advisor teams, while having opportunities to contribute to their own clients’ overall financial planning and goals through the financial insurance services and products.

What professional accomplishments are you most proud of?

Earning my CFP and CLU professional designations. Also being a board member and then President of Rocky Mountain Chapter of Society of Financial Service Professionals (Denver)— during that time membership increased and the chapter’s budget returned to black.

What is your favorite book and why?

To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s a very powerful story that everyone can learn from (even today), about how people can have unfounded biases and prejudices, but that we all should look at individuals for what/who they are, before making judgements, and we should all look within ourselves for the same.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

My father: “Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.”

Who do you respect most in the industry and why?

Warren Buffet — “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you'll do things differently.”
